Gnome team roster

The Gnome roster has 5 positions. The cheapest player is the Gnome Lineman at 40,000 gp, the quickest is the Woodland Fox with MA 7, and the strongest is the Altern Forest Treeman with ST 6. Team re-rolls cost 50,000 gp each.

How the team plays

Gnomes are a Stunty team that plays tricks instead of taking hits. Gnome Linemen are 40k, ST 2, AV 7+, with Wrestle, Jump Up, Right Stuff and Stunty, so a tiny player can floor a bigger one and stand back up free. Illusionists carry Trickster: a block declared against them lets them slip to another square beside the blocker before the dice are counted. Beastmasters have Guard, and two of them beside the Altern Forest Treemen make the Treemen's blocks reliable. Woodland Foxes are the scorers, MA 7, AG 2+, Dodge, Sidestep and My Ball on AV 6+, with no Passing value.

Two Treemen are where the bash comes from, ST 6 with Mighty Blow, Stand Firm, Throw Team-mate and Strong Arm, at the price of MA 2 and Take Root. Casualties come to every gnome, because AV 7+ breaks on most armour rolls. An opponent who simply blocks everything in reach is what hurts. The team plays in the Halfling Thimble Cup or the Woodland League.

Building a starting roster

Gnomes are cheap enough to field a full bench. Both Treemen (240k), both Beastmasters (110k), both Illusionists (100k) and both Foxes (100k) come first, 550k for eight players. Six Linemen (240k) make fourteen for 790k, and three re-rolls at 50k each bring it to 940k. The last 60k goes on an apothecary (990k) or on a fifteenth gnome. Nothing on the roster is left for later except numbers: a Gnome side needs sixteen bodies by the second half of a league, because the casualty box fills every match.

Advice for newer coaches

Place a Beastmaster next to each Treeman before the Treeman blocks; Guard counts even when the Beastmaster is marked, so the Treeman's block keeps its assist. Use Wrestle as your ball-stripping tool: a Both Down against a ST 4 carrier puts him prone, and your Lineman stands back up with Jump Up. Give the ball to a Fox only when he can score, since My Ball means he will never hand it on. Avoid throwing a Lineman at the ball without a re-roll in hand.
