Slann team roster

The Slann roster has 4 positions. The cheapest player is the Slann Lineman at 60,000 gp, the quickest is the Slann Catcher with MA 7, and the strongest is the Kroxigor with ST 5. Team re-rolls cost 50,000 gp each.

How the team plays

Slann are frogs, and the roster is a dash team built on Pogo. Every Slann can Pogo over an adjacent square while moving, ignoring the negative modifiers for a Jump, so screens and cages that stop other teams are an inconvenience. Catchers at AG 2+ with Diving Catch, On the Ball and Very Long Legs receive and intercept. Blitzers carry Diving Tackle, Hit and Run and Jump Up, and Linemen at AG 3+ and AV 9+ are sturdier than most agile linemen. A Kroxigor at ST 5 is the only strength.

The team is good at reaching squares nobody expected, and at making an opposing passing game miserable with Very Long Legs and On the Ball. It is bad at the basics: no Slann starts with Block, Dodge or a ball skill, so every turn has a loose dice roll in it, and Catchers at ST 2 fold under any block. Catchers and Blitzers score, Catchers and Linemen get hurt, and the Kroxigor does the only reliable damage.

Building a starting roster

A standard start is two Slann Blitzers (200,000 gp), two Slann Catchers (160,000 gp), a Kroxigor (140,000 gp) and six Slann Linemen (360,000 gp): eleven players for 860,000 gp. Re-rolls are 50,000 gp, and the team needs them more than most, so two go in for a total of 960,000 gp. A third re-roll does not fit alongside the Kroxigor, and some coaches prefer three re-rolls and a seventh Lineman to the Big Guy, at 930,000 gp. Whatever is left over sits in the bank until something dies.

Advice for newer coaches

Use Pogo to put a Blitzer or Catcher behind the defence instead of through it, then bring the ball there with a short pass or a hand-off. Mark the opposing receivers with Catchers: Very Long Legs makes an interception a real option. Point the Kroxigor at whoever holds their cage together. Avoid taking blocks with Slann players, who have no Block, unless the dice are two or more and a re-roll is still available; the roster has no safe blockers at the start.
