Tomb Kings team roster

The Tomb Kings roster has 4 positions. The cheapest player is the Skeleton Lineman at 40,000 gp, the quickest is the Tomb Kings Thrower with MA 6, and the strongest is the Tomb Guardian with ST 5. Team re-rolls cost 60,000 gp each.

How the team plays

Tomb Kings are a bash team with four Big Guys. Four Tomb Guardians at ST 5, AV 10+ with Brawler and Regeneration are the reason to play them, and unlike most Big Guys they have no Loner and no negative trait, so they act every turn and use re-rolls. Decay is the catch: casualty rolls against them get +1. Skeleton Linemen at 40,000 gp fill the line, Blitzers at MA 6 bring Block, and the Thrower at PA 3+ with Sure Hands is the one player trusted with the ball.

The team is good at making a ST 5 wall that moves slowly and leaves bodies behind it. It is bad at anything agile: AG 4+ on everyone who can hold the ball, PA 5+ or worse for all but the Thrower, and MA 4 on the Guardians, so a quick opponent that scores early can run the clock on you. Guardians do the damage, Blitzers score, and Skeletons at AV 8+ absorb the rest.

Building a starting roster

Four Tomb Guardians (460,000 gp), two Tomb Kings Blitzers (170,000 gp), one Thrower (65,000 gp) and four Skeleton Linemen (160,000 gp) make eleven players for 855,000 gp. Re-rolls cost 60,000 gp; two bring the total to 975,000 gp with 25,000 gp spare. A second Thrower in place of a Skeleton lands on exactly 1,000,000 gp with two re-rolls and is a common alternative, since Sure Hands and Regeneration make the Thrower the best lineman on the team anyway. More Skeletons are the only thing left to buy afterwards.

Advice for newer coaches

Line the Guardians up where the opponent must engage them, and block with them first each turn; Brawler lets a Both Down be re-rolled, so a two-dice block from a Guardian rarely costs you the turn. Carry the ball with the Thrower and hand off to a Blitzer only when the Blitzer can score. Keep the cage small and slow. Avoid dodging with anyone: AG 4+ across the roster is a one-in-two failure before modifiers, and a turnover with Guardians half-way up the pitch wastes the drive.
